The last grain windmill ‘Koutermolen’ or ‘Saint Bavo Mill’, a wooden centrepiece with a closed of foot is first mentioned in the year 1373. It belonged to the Saint Bavo’s Abbey in Ghent. In 1614 it was replaced by a mill that was being used until the year 1955. In the Latem art, the windmill has been an eyecatcher since the very beginning. Artists like, Valerius de Saedeleer, Maurice Sys, Gustave De Smet and Albert Saverys have more than once painted this monument. Back to the current day, you can go see it from the outside since it was restored in 2008.
