At the Meerskant in Deinze/Meigem, you’ll find the workshop ‘t Hoveke of potter Paul Van Gompel which is open for a visit. The ceramist has a classroom, a showroom and a super cosy meeting place. Paul Van Gompel is an internationally appreciated clay artist who has founded several foreign workshops where the locals can make their own artwork: in Morocco for the local people, in Nepal for the street children and an education institute in Congo-Brazzaville.
His work combines traditional craftsmanship with an artistic touch. He doesn’t shun exotic influences and experimenting with other icings. In 2006 he broke the world record in making pottery.
You can even taste a real potter’s beer there, brewn in the Gottem homebrewery Saint-Canarus.
